A GENETIC TEST FOR WOMEN WITH BREAST CANCER: THIS TEST WILL TELL THE LIKELIHOOD OF YOUR CANCER RETURNING AND WHETHER YOU WILL BENEFIT FROM CHEMOTHERAPY
Women diagnosed with breast cancer are often faced with the decision of whether or not to undergo chemotherapy after surgery.
The problem is that, although chemotherapy is essential for some women, to prevent or slow the return or spread of cancer, it gives no benefit at all in other cases where the cancer is not active and in rare cases can even do more harm than good by destroying healthy cells in the body that may be essential for recovery and good health.
ONCOASSAY ™ BREAST is for women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and their clinicians. The test tells you the likelihood (risk) of your breast cancer returning or spreading, by measuring the genetic characteristics of your tumor and using them to determine your particular cancer type.
It enables you and your clinician to understand whether chemotherapy will be of any benefit to you and so to make personalized choices about your treatment.
The assay, which was developed with the Institute for Molecular Medicine and Cell Therapy, Düsseldorf, Germany, assigns cases of breast cancer into 1 of 24 well defined prognostic groups, each with validated personalized outcomes, based on analysis of 30 biomarkers and 2 clinical prognosticators.
